It's funny sometimes how I'll get an email from an O.R. professional who just can't stand working in the operating room anymore.

Either they are a "newbie" and haven't given themselves a chance to really get their feet wet or they are a seasoned veteran with no real specialty, heading right into the "burn out" phase.

Listen, I've said it before and I'll say it again right now...

The operating room can be a very challenging place to work.

You really do have to develop a certain type of survival skills, knowledge, and experience in order to "make it" in the surgical world and avoid the pitfalls & ruts.

Without a survival plan and career path in mind, you might just very well find yourself in a rut looking for a way to break out of the operating room~

WELL, today is your lucky day because I am going to give you a key to open those doors of opportunity in the surgical world and possibly break out of your current position...(or Rut)

Here it is:

Become a Master in your chosen field or specialty!

It's quite simple.

Master what you do, care about what's in front of you, and you will put yourself into a position of being able to move past it.

Let me explain with an example from my surgical career.

As many of you know, I love orthopedics and spines.

I love these specialties so much that (anywhere I scrubbed) I'd be looking for the BIG cases to scrub on, knowing they would only add to my foundation of knowledge.

Well, after a certain amount of experience in these two fields it became quite apparent to my team in every and any O.R. I would step into that I was well versed in many specialties, esp ortho & spines.

Now, I'm not trying to sound arrogant but I mastered the skills needed to become an expert scrub tech in ortho and spines.

This did not happen because I was some kind of Einstein or Brainiac...

RATHER ~ because I worked hard, got the experience, and often challenged myself in the O.R.

Ultimately I was recruited by a major spinal implant company to work as a Clinical Spinal Consultant where I would cover spine cases for $200 per case.

Without even realizing what was happening, I found myself breaking out of the O.R. as a scrub tech and opening a door in the surgical world to spinal implant technical support and sales.

YOU CAN DO THE SAME THING!

Are you in a rut?

Are you getting burned out?

Do you dread the service you are currently working in?

WELL, become a master of where you are right now and see where it will take you.

I think you'll be surprised of the many doors in the world of surgery just waiting for you to knock on.

Don't let this or any career out there control your life.

Step up to the plate, grab this field by it's clamp ends, and get your surgical career in gear.

If I can do it, and some of the friends I have out there can do it (who, by the way were definitely no braniacs either), then you can do it too.

Approach the world of surgery as an opportunity and road to travel to any destination YOU choose.
