SURGICAL TECH CERTIFICATIONBecoming Nationally Certified will promote the surgical tech as a professional in their field. The school you go to does make a difference as to which certification exam you can take. Certification is a process that takes place once you graduate from a surgical tech program. Although surgical tech certification is not formally acquired until after graduation, it is possible to take a national certification exam within the last month of surgical tech school. Surgical Tech Certification is required in some states. Recent surgical tech graduates may work in surgery for up to a year before they sit for a certification exam, however, students may also sit for a national certification exam within 30 days of surgical tech school graduation or soon after they graduate. This way much of the information you will be tested on is still "fresh" in your mind. National Certification is one way to prove to your employer that you are a serious surgical professional and there are many hospitals and facilities that pay a higher salary once the surgical tech becomes certified. While there are many hospitals nationwide that do not currently require certification as a prerequisite for getting hired, you will soon discover that many states are pushing for national certification to be the "norm" for all Surgical Tech's. Certification indicates a degree of education, knowledge & professionalism, and also helps to ensure that surgical techs maintain a set of educational requirements in order to keep their certification current & work in the field as a certified professional.
