~Not Making Enough?

*************************

Did you get into the surgical tech field to make lots of the green stuff $ .. ?

Were you under the impression for one reason or another that surgical techs make really BIG bucks?

Was money one of the motivating factors that got you into this field?

Do you now find that, working as a scrub tech, you are just not making enough OR you're not making the kind of income you thought you'd make?

IF you answered YES to any of the above questions,...,

YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!

I get a lot of emails and questions (on a regular basis) regarding surgical techs and Income$

Very often new grads and current students were either surprised or simply not aware that STARTING salaries for surgical techs can range anywhere between $10 - $20 an hour.

The starting rate will depend on many factors with one of the biggest factors being your location.

Now, the emails and questions about the ST income usually have the following common themes:

"That's It!"...

"I thought I would make more than..."

"I worked my butt off in school for only $____ an hour..."

"Frustrated about maxing out at $___ an hr..."

Well, if this is you & you can relate to any of the above comments,

--> RELAX and listen up... :)

Think about a college grad who just completed a 4 year degree in, lets say, Physics.

First of all, do you think this new grad with their 4 year degree is going to start their new Physics career at the top of the pay scale?

Probably not...

Think about a Med School grad who just completed 8 years of education, do you think they are going to start a new practice or join an existing practice at the top of the pay scale?

Again, probably not...

Hmm, both examples could have mentioned how hard these new grads had to work to get through school along with all of the personal sacrifices they had to make and they get out starting at the beginning of the salary ladder also.

You see, if you are money motivated (as many people are), you have to look at the big picture.

We all know surgical tech school can be an extremely demanding program filled with late nights & long weekends of study.

And we all know that ST school requires learning an entirely new set of work knowledge and skills, including anything from learning O.R. instrumentation to dealing with surgical personalities....

But if this were an easy career field that didn't require much work and started you out with a SIX figure income, then everybody would want to be a surgical tech.

The facts are:

Surgical Tech School is not easy~

Surgical Techs can make BIG money~

Surgical Techs who make the above average salaries all started at a much lower base income~

Surgical Techs who are making six figures are NOT just showing up for a shift, putting in 40 hours, and calling it a week~

Surgical Techs who are making six figures had an idea or plan of where they wanted to take their surgical career~

Surgical Techs who are making six figures have stepped out of the "box" and realized that an education & professional experience working in Surgical Technology can open many career doors~

Surgical Techs who are making six figures have probably become an expert in a particular field~

Surgical Tech Career Advancement is only limited by YOUR own personal motivation and desires.

Listen, if you want to make the big bucks, focus on how you can do it.

It's really that simple.

Think about how you see yourself making the type of income you need to live the type of lifestyle you want and then develop a plan utilizing your education & experience to put yourself where you see yourself.

Surgical Techs can make the big bucks, that's the bottom line!

If you are not happy with your current income, change the circumstances.

Whether it's becoming a traveler, first assistant, RN, PA, MD, Sales Rep,,,,whatever it is that will put you where you'd like to be, just do it.

If you are happy with your current income, more power to you. And please note that I found the quote in today's newsletter with you in mind :)
